Many fonts come with glyphs which add further detail to your text. ![]() These glyphs can be accessed with the Character Map and used in Inkscape. We will be using a calligraphy script font font called Pretty Baby. In our tutorial we will show you how to use fonts in Inkscape. It offers a rich set of features and is widely used for both artistic and technical illustrations such as cartoons, clip art, logos, typography, diagramming and flowcharting. If you would like to use another font, browse through our modern calligraphy fonts for more options. Inkscape is an open-source vector graphics editor for GNU/Linux, Windows, and macOS X. You can use any font that is available on your system. We downloaded and installed our fonts before opening Inkscape. The Install button was clicked at the top and the font installed. To add your text you will need to use the Create and edit text objects tool. You can find the tool on the left hand side toolbar. Select the tool then click anywhere in the document. Start typing out your text.Īt the top left corner of the screen, click on Select Font Family. The text will appear in its frame and will not leave the frame area. You can choose from a list of fonts on your system or type in the font name. Here we discuss the text and text tools in different points such as we adjust font style, size spacing as well as the color of text by using different features. This will create a frame for a flowed text with a blue border, in which the text can be inserted. You will only be able to change the font when you are in text edit mode. If you click away at any time, just double click on the text to access the edit mode. You don’t need to highlight your text to change the font. Not only that but they have good editorial standards, so you know that stolen fonts aren’t likely to appear on the site. Inkscape is a great free alternative to Illustrator and Corel Draw. However, you may at times find that the font doesn’t change. This tutorial is for Inkscape version 0.48 and is intended to teach beginners how to use the software.
